The Sectrets of Student Life

By Article Guy On January 30, 2010 Under Uncategorized

The Daily Telegraph has just published a student poll conducted by Olympus which highlights what students think they should be doing at University.

The list entitled ‘Things to do before leaving University’ includes many archetypical student experiences like arguing with housemates over who should buy the toilet roll; ringing your parents only when you need money; collecting 500 friends on Facebook and spending no more than £10 on a night out.

I could add a number of additional experiences based on my own student years. These include having sex with a woman in her eighties; five legged pub crawls; brewing beer in the bio-chemistry lab and abseiling down the outside of the University building.

These are all typical student experiences. But student life can be fraught with risk. There are many students who actually have vey unhappy or unpleasant times at college or University. Often they are in unfamiliar towns and cities, away from home for the first time where they might find themselves prey to unscrupulous landlords only too happy to take their limited cash.

Students in some of Britains cities have become targets for bullying, abuse and theft. Its well known that they all have mobile phones, laptops and other valuable gadgets and these can be very attractive to local criminal gangs who are happy to frighten the living daylights out of them to get their hands on these valuables. Student life can be a lot of fun, but these days it can also be fraught with danger. Todays students would do well to take classes in self-defence and avoiding confrontation.

Having fun, making friends and enjoying the freedom of being away from mum and dad are all part of what it is to be a student. But it’s important to stay safe.
