Problems on Social Security Numbers

By Article Guy On February 25, 2010 Under Uncategorized

We are issued with our own social security number which is unique from one individual to another and these numbers can be used for many different ways. However, because of its many uses, it has become difficult and problematic. But does it matter a lot when people are aware of our ssn? We have to remember that we are not necessarily obligated to disclose our number to any agencies, may it be private or public. These agencies are required to show us the Privacy Disclosure Notice, which is a law mandated by the government that basically states that they have the right to ask for it. But if other businesses organization, like banks, perhaps, when you apply for a loan or a new account asks for it, it is your choice whether to go through with it and disclose your number, or you may switch to another company. These private companies are not bound by the Disclosure Act so you have to think it through. Many of us have experienced receiving telemarketing calls, right? Oftentimes, these telemarketing calls are for timeshares for sale, utilities subscription and the most common of all is the telecommunications subscription, specifically post paid plans for mobile phones. The common flow will be you will hear a sales pitch and then the telemarketer will ask you to sign up with him through the phone and most likely, they ask for your ssn as your form of valid identification. Again, remember that in such cases, it becomes your call whether you disclose it or not. But before anything else, you have to make sure that you are dealing with a legit company and if you decide to disclose your personal information, make sure that they have a really secure database to make sure other unauthorized individuals won’t have access to it. But average individuals will not know whether these databases are secure enough, or other as others call it, it is encrypted. But why take the risk? To know more about social security numbers, you may use ssn search.
