baseball – Boston Red Sox See Disappointing End to 2009 Season

By Article Guy On December 15, 2009 Under Sports and Recreation, Team Sports

baseball…Emmy Nominations

After 86 years of misery the Boston Red Sox finally won the World Series in 2004 & again in 2007. The Sox have been the New York Yankees this decade it would seem. After losing to the Tampa Bay Rays in the American League Championship series in 2008 the 09′ Sox were looking to win their 3rd championship in 6 seasons. The Red Sox finished 2nd in the American League East division behind the Yankees with a 95-67 record. The Red Sox were one of the best home teams in the major leagues going 56-25 overall.

The Orioles only had 25 road wins on the season which was last in the American League – only one team had fewer road wins in the National League – Pittsburgh Pirates with 22.

Baltimore has a great fan base and want to support a winning baseball team once again. To compete in the American League East spending money wisely and drafting young players is necessary to even compete in the division. The Yankees and Red Sox have the largest check books but that doesn’t mean they will always trade top spots in the division. The best models to follow are the Minnesota Twins and Florida Marlins when it comes to having success with a limited pay roll.

Quality pitching needs to be a high priority for the Orioles. The team leader in wins went 10-17 – not what someone would call a Cy Young candidate.

The Tampa Bay Rays went many seasons without winning and in just one year went to the World Series in 2008. The Orioles are in a very long slump they need to get out fo very quickly before they enter Pittsburgh Pirate/Kansas City Royal territory.

The Sox had a championship caliber team but their downfall might have come because of inconsistent play – too many hot and cold spouts during the regular season and playoffs. The Red Sox will make another playoff run in 2010 because they have the players to do so
