Incredible York Vacations
More and more folk are choosing to take vacations closer to home this coming year. For most of us it is to help with the family budget but is this the choice of the wise or a dreadful error? Often most of us overlook the large number of local visitor attractions but they are commonly excellent and much better than those we would see elsewhere. People resident in the British Isles have a mindblowing list of places for a vacation each of which has a gigantic collection of first class tourist attractions to visit. In this article I discuss the English city of York and York hotels.
The city of York is found in Yorkshire, north England and was, hundreds of years ago, the capital city of a huge kingdom covering most of northern England. In such an old city you will not be surprised to find a massive selection of extremely historic architecture, but you may not expect the breathtaking sight of the 12th century Gothic masterpiece of York Minster.
The first York Minster was a humble wooden building in which King Edwin of Northumbria was baptised in the seventh century. It wasn#t until the 11th century that the first substantial stone building appeared on the site. Constructed by Thomas of Bayeux, a Norman Archbishop it was extended by Archbishop Roger who constructed a north transept and a south transept. Following many alterations it was said to be complete and consecrated in the year 1472. Inside features the largest medieval stained glass window in the world. York has many other places to visit including; Barley Hall, Fairfax House, the Jorvik Viking Centre, the National Railway Museum, York Dungeon and York Castle Museum.
As well as all of the awesome historic tourist attractions introduced above, York is an excellent place in which to go out partying or enjoy live music. It that doesn’t thrill you then you could spend the evening in a pub there are certainly masses to choose from, including; Slug and Lettuce, The Bootham Tavern, Old Star Inn, The Bluebell Inn and The Royal Oak, and, lastly, the Black Swan. Out of all the pubs the Black Swan is probably the most appealing with an incredible atmosphere and sometimes featuring live music.
York B&B
As in most UK cities you will find a huge selection of B&B accommodation in York ranging from cheap and cheerful guest houses to first class hotels. The Middlethorpe Hall hotel is just 2 miles from the city centre of York but provides excellent accommodation with private gardens, steam room, gym and sauna, and it is also possible to get a massage. Other excellent York hotels include; Bishops at 135 Holgate Road, Marriott on Tadcaster Road Hotel du Vin and Bistro, Parsonage Country House Hotel and Burn Hall Hotel and one of the best guest houses is Crossways on Wigginto Road, or if you are searching for something different why not consider Marmadukes Boutique Hotel.
