Greening Up Your Holiday Season
As the holiday season inches closer, you might be thinking of ways you can make your Christmas more environmentally friendly. Some experts claim that Americans throw 25% more refuse away during the holiday season, which really adds up. If you’re working to reduce your personal consumption, think about reducing your waste this Christmas. If you think wisely about your consumption and implement the ideas right, you will probably end up saving money. Just as you can save a lot of money by tracking down business coupon at the office, you can save money by reducing your consumption.
We’re always looking for ways to save money at the office, often by getting business software coupons. You can save money at home, by limiting energy consumption. For example, when you hang your lights this year, put them on an automatic timer. You can run them for 4 – 5 hours, during the time when the streets still have pedestrians and cars. Once it gets late, few people will see the lights, so turn them off! You’ll save money on your energy bill, and consume less. Replace your old, inefficient Christmas lights with new-fangled LED lights, which are much more earth friendly.
When you’re buying for someone who lives out-of-town, choose smaller-sized gifts that require less shipping packaging. You could always mail gift cards or cash in a card as well, which will reduce your impact. Instead of foam peanuts or Styrofoam, try using shredded newspaper or other scrap papers you may have lying around.
Carry a reusable shopping bag with you when you go to the mall. So many people bring bags to the grocery store, but forget they can also be brought to the mall. Or, you could consider using the first bag you get as your only bag, consolidating everything as you go along. Trust us, there isn’t a rule that you must carry the purchase from one store in their bag!
So go ahead, “green up” your Christmas season. Use your creativity to come up with more ideas to make this season bright…and green.
