The Nature of SEO

By Article Guy On January 11, 2010 Under Search Engine Optimization

Search engine optimization or SEO is a strategy for online marketing in which the goal is to boost traffic to a website for the purpose of increasing sales and profits.  SEO considers the algorithms used by search engines and the preferences of Web surfers to obtain the best possible rank in the results pages for the marketer’s site.  SEO is a complicated set of procedures to take into account the wide variety of factors that search engines have included into their algorithms for estimating the relevance of a site for certain words and phrases.

Despite the many factors that are included in the equation, it all boils down to good content because the role of search engines is to provide relevant and quality information for the searcher.  Through experience and knowledge, SEO experts are able to make adjustments to both on-site and off-site factors to obtain the best possible rank for the website in the search engine results pages but content should never be neglected.

On-site factors include the words and phrases that the Internet surfer is likely to input into the search engine tool bar when he is looking for something that is related to the products or services of the marketer.  The usual technique is to position the keywords in the various tags, articles, and titles.  The background, layout, graphics, images, and color, are additional on-site factors for SEO.  To know the best layout and theme for your site, you will have to be familiar with your target market’s preferences and choices.  Still another on-site factor is the loading time of the landing page.|  If it takes too long to load, there is a strong chance that the searcher will leave the site and the search engine will degrade the site’s rank.

Meanwhile, some of the off-site factors for SEO are the anchor text and the number of back links.  It is vital to construct the sentences and phrases in the anchor text in such a way that the reader of an article is induced to click on the back link that directs him to your website.  SEO also has to take into account the quality and quantity of the back links because these are included in the calculations of the search engines in determining the site’s rank in the results pages.

It should be noted that some strategies used for SEO are discouraged by search engines such as Google because they are only designed to get the best possible rank and are not concerned with providing quality information.  While black hat SEO could be very effective in the beginning, this will not last because search engines are likely to blacklist such sites, that is why SEO with article marketing porivided by companies such as http://ArticlesOnTap.com is preffered.
