More HD With Direct TV

By Article Guy On October 5, 2009 Under Computing and Internet

We have been itching to get rid of Comcast digital cable for quite a while. The problem is they give you a great combo with their packages that include voice, internet, and cable TV service. When you need to disconnect one, you lose the discounts of the package.

But the cable television service just needs to go, as the channel selection and quality is well below average. There is so much talk today about HD, there isn’t much selection with Charter Cable. So I began researching who else was available in my area.

I am fortunate to be one of the individuals who have a few choices. Unlike many folks who can only pick from just the cable company or Direct TV satellite service, I have a third provider in my area. The old telephone company in this area has been upgrading their network. So there is another player with U-verse from AT&T.

That doesn’t of course mean I won’t have similar issues. It could put me in the same situation as with the cable company, because phone company want me to package their TV service with high speed and voice service. If the service works out well, customers will be happy. Then again if the service is poor you are in the same circumstance that we all hate, being stuck with cable TV that isn’t all that great.  So I’m doing a side by side comparison, cable TV vs Direct TV so I make the right decision.

The reviews I found on the internet are pretty good on telecom TV service. Because it is new, there is sometimes a learning curve with a new technology like this, and some customers write poor reviews. Some of those reviews are the quite amusing, because customers decide to write a dissertation on their bad experience and post it on the internet. Unhappy customers badmouth the company like it is some huge conspiracy to make the customer unhappy, like the corporation doesn’t want to make money!

Another way to go that I am seriously considering is of course satellite TV. Because we have seven television viewers in the house, we usually buy a premium cable television bundle. The satellite companies seem to be fairly comparable, as the DirecTV Premier package and the Dish Network Everything package are both right around $110 per month. Yes that’s pretty high for pay television, but when you compare that to treating your family to supper and a movie, the entertainment value is comparable. Some of my family speak Spanish, so the Direct TV Mas package looks pretty good. The nice thing is that there are plenty of DirecTV pros and cons to help me decide which direction to take.
