Because of the latest incidents that have taking place in the southern region of the Philippines, president Gloria Macapagal Arroyo has placed the region under emergency rule to find those guilty of the heinous crimes described as the worst massacre in recent Philippines history. Under emergency rule army forces will conduct random searches and checkpoints to try to locate the gunmen responsible for the crimes.
While investigators try to find witnesses to come foreword to help find the perpetrators, no one really wants to come foreword fearing retaliation from the warlords or militia that is most likely responsible. One witness who would not give his name said, “There were about 12-militia gunman accompanied with local police”. So far National police chief Jesus Versosa has placed the police chief responsible for controlling the area and three other officers one being a person considered to be a suspect into a camp until the investigation is over.
One thing is clear whoever is responsible for the attacks planned it out ahead of time gave the fact that the graves that some of the bodies were placed in was carefully dug up ahead of time. As the investigators look farther into the details of the case, they are starting to discover not only do the Ampatuan family who are considered partners with warlords and deadly militia’s control the people in the towns but also many of the police officers around the area.

Vince Cable As The Next Prime Minister?
The recent European elections proved to be some what of a disaster for Labour and their leader Gordon Brown. Some how Gordon Brown has stayed on as the party leader. Mr Brown has stated that he will learn from his mistakes and that he will start to listen to the people but many believe that he lacks true leadership qualities and the communication skills to turn it around. I doubt whether the British public would forgive him for his errors. So what are the potential solutions to this problem? What could Labour do to give themselves a chance of staying in power?
Now I am not a member of parliment. I am merely an average guy on the streets who enjoys the whole subject of politics. I am a web promotion specialist based in the heart of England who promotes websites to do with last minute holidays, offering a manual article submission service and about selling front doors.
I do however believe that I have the answers to the above questions and the solution to the current Labour woes! Who is the one person, the one member of parliment who has spoken the most sense in the last twelve months? For me there is only one answer to this question – Vince Cable. Vince is currently the MP for Twickenham and is a Lib Dem party member.
So here is my idea and by the way I am by no way saying that it would be easy to carry off. I would offer the leadership of the Labour party to Vince Cable as a way of convincing him to switch parties. He may need to stand for a type of leadership election or vote however this would or at least should be a foregone conclusion that he would win. I would let him have full control of the Labour party and to therefore choose his own cabinet, this really goes without saying of course.
As leader of the Labour Party I am sure that Vince Cable would become Prime Minister and that he would lead the country out of the desperate state that it is in. At the end of the day it all depends on how much Vince Cable wants to become the Prime Minister as it will never happen with the Lib Dems and whether he would be prepared to switch parties. I sure hope that he does complete the switch and that he becomes Prime Minister.
The Downturn Of Our Local Newspapers
I have recently been hearing about how our local newspapers (in the UK) are falling into decline due to a raft of competition from various alternative media sources such as the internet.
I do not work within the media in any sense; my vocation is to do with obtaining telecoms cost reduction, offering DVD replication and selling composite doors.
Advertising rates should be made more affordable with perks to encourage people to become long term business partners and advertisers, such as free features of their business from time to time. I would also include some interesting competitions and offers off different products. Where I live we have a famous Saturday nights sports paper which arrives in the shops at around 6pm, it is called The Sports Argus and is pink in colour. This paper has been a must buy for my family for as long as I can remember and it includes all of the days football results and the latest football tables. It also has match reports from all of the local teams as well as a lot of information about other sports including the horse racing and its results. I am very sad to report that this paper is no longer available to purchase; it had its final publication around four weeks ago.
A few years ago the first place to read about these results and to see the updated football divisions was via this newspaper. This is no longer the case of course. We are now able to view this information almost immediately after each football match has finished on either satellite television, the internet or even on our mobile phones. Less and less people are now purchasing this particular paper which is a shame as I had continued to do so and will miss it!
Advertising revenue has greatly reduced in recent years for these local newspapers, this has also been a reason which has resulted in some of them deciding to stop printing.
These local newspapers need to act quickly and decisively if they are going to survive. Yes I am fully aware that it will not be easy, especially due to the fact that we are in a recession however something has to be done to turn their fortunes around. I would much prefer to read about the real local stories from my area; let’s face it that it what it says on the tin “local newspaper”. I can read about the national news in a variety of places, maybe there are many other people who think in a similar way as to what I do; hence the decline in overall newspaper sales. By all means include the main two or three national news stories but ninety percent of the items should be about the local area and its people.
