Candles and Romanting Lighting

By Article Guy On March 3, 2010 No Comments

Scented Candle have been used for millenia since the glory days of the Roman Empire. The most common use for them has always bee for lighting but there have been many other more specialized uses found for them, from religious purposes to telling the time!. The main uses for them now mainly involve creating lighting effects or using them for their scents. They don’t last forever though so you should make sure that you put them out when you aren’t going to be using them. In fact, most candles have a maximum burn life of around 15 hours, with specialized products sometimes lasting up to 40 or so hours. Therefore, if you burn them everyday for an hour, most candles will only last about two weeks.

Precautions

Burning candles is always safe when done properly, so you just need to follow a few tips to ensure that safety. For unenclosed candles, stop burning them when they reach about 2 inches in height. Enclosed ones can continue burning until they are about half an inch in height. Why not continue burning until there is nothing left? Well, candles burn because they draw wax up through the wicks which in turn burns. If you just burned the wick, it would only last a minute or two at most. The wax is much slower burning and doesn’t create much smoke, if at any, often giving off pleasant scents in the form of water vapor. That’s why they smell so good in stores.

A candle holder can also make burning candles safer. They’ll be much less likely to tip over or spill hot, sticky wax. If wax does spill while enclosed, it’s simple and easy to clean up by just washing the holder out. Also, remember to trim the wicks to about a quarter of an inch each time you plan on lighting a candle. This makes the wax easier to soak up through the wick so that it can continue burning. Otherwise, you might start creating a lot of smoke, smoke that negates the pleasant scents or makes it even worse in the room.

If you make sure that you follow those simple precautions, you will be able to enjoy the vibrant and atmospheric lighting that you get from scented candles as well as knowing that you are safe around them. They are perfect for romantic evenings or creating a gentle glow while you enjoy a nice, hot bath. You might not think of them for use in lighting, and while nobody is probably going to be reading by them, they are still great for making a warming glow throughout the house.

What Are The Advantages Of Purchasing A Metal Swing Set Compared To A Wooden Swing Set?

By Article Guy On March 3, 2010 No Comments

When you’re deciding about a play set for your recreational area, there are numerous factors to keep in mind. Toughness, outlay, and safety are the most imperative. Buyers can ordinarily select amid wood, metal, and plastic play sets. Plastic is by far the safest, but it’s only fitting for very young kids, and doesn’t weather well. Wood is sometimes thought to be more appealing, but comes with a hefty price tag. The well known metal swing set, however, does suitably on all three parts, just so long as you take a little care.

Metal swing sets are regarded by many to be the most durable option on the industry. However, it’s important to purchase a quality set, finished from galvanized steel that won’t tarnish. Everyday steel that has just been painted to slow down corrosion will worsen if the paint layer is scratched. Sets that do not characterise galvanized steel are also often of less build. There are loads of different styles and sizes of metal swing set. Some include slides, monkey bars, rope swings and other fun toys, whilst other styles have only basic swings.

Of late, wooden swing sets have become far more accepted. These playground configurations present the opportunity for children to play near their own homes, safely, and for guardians to maintain an eye on them. They are also visually nice-looking, strong, and amusing. Although older models were fairly unsafe, new changes to wooden swing sets and play equipment, such as plastic slides, coated chains, and well finished wood that helps children keep away from splinters makes a wooden swing set a plausible alternative. Though, there are lots of designs on the market, and deciding might be difficult. There’s much more to choosing a wooden swing set than just purchasing the first set that looks attractive.

Insulating with fiberglass is one of the most efficient ways of lowering energy bills

By Article Guy On February 25, 2010 No Comments

Fiberglass insulation has been the most popular insulation material for both commercial and residential projects. Fiberglass’ high R rating and simple installation are the main reasons fiberglass tops the list among the several available insulation technologies.

The term R value is defined as the ability of an insulation product to stop heat transfer; the insulation will do its job more effectively the greater its R rating. Insulation with higher R values will help to keep the heat inside and reduce your total energy costs. Different geographical areas will have different R value requirements, and will therefore need different types of insulation. You will not need a high R value insulation if you live in a warmer climate. You will see the most benefit from high R value insulation in colder climates, as it is the most efficient insulation at curtailing heat loss.

Since it is a member of the “loose-fill” insulation category, fiberglass is ”squashable” enough to fit into the smallest of spaces and also insulate the large areas of attics and walls. Fiberglass insulation is manufactured using glass that has been melted and then spun into fibers. Using recycled glass for much of the raw materials makes fiberglass insulation a reliable and “green” product. These fibers are then packaged as either rolls (utilizing a foil paper) or loosely bagged “blow-in” insulation.

The most popular type of insulation used in residential applications is fiberglass rolls, which are most often sold in widths perfect for fitting into the space between joists and between wall studs. The large, pink rolls of fiberglass insulation have become a common sight.

Blown in insulation is preferable for areas where accessibility is too difficult, such as eaves and irregular crawl spaces. With this type of insulation, small pieces of fiber are quickly blown into the area using specialized equipment. To help protect against settling, which could lessen the insulation’s effectiveness, a lot of the blow-in products are coated with a special adhesive that keeps all of the fiber pieces in place.

Another looming problem with blow-in insulation is the mess. If you disturb the stuff, it will wind up in places you don’t want it, like on the carpet and in your hair and down your back. So, if you plan on turning your attic into a storage space, it would be best to use the pink rolls and then cover the joists with plywood. This will have the added benefit of further insulating the house. You can also box in the blow-in fiberglass, but working with the rolls is just a lot easier, quicker, and cheaper.

Coffee Maker – Cleaning

By Article Guy On February 25, 2010 No Comments

Your coffee maker could be killing you. Well it is if your morning cup of coffee is a matter of life and death and you have a filthy coffee maker. When was the last time you thoroughly cleaned your coffee maker? Washing the pot is important but getting the internal components of a coffee maker clean is a task that shouldn’t be skipped. Did you even know that you were supposed to clean it? A clean coffee maker can be the difference between a good cup of coffee and a nasty cup of sludge. A clean coffee maker really makes a big difference in how your coffee tastes. Left over coffee oils can accumulate inside your coffee maker. Also mineral deposits can form especially in areas with hard water. These deposits are called scale? There are two kinds of scale, lime scale and mineral scale and you don't want either one. Scale can affect the heating unit and the water flow of your coffee maker and reduce it’s efficiency. How quickly scale forms depends on the quality of your drinking water.

Cleaning your coffee maker is not a hard task to accomplish and in fact it's as easy as making coffee. All you have to do is pour a pot of half vinegar and half water into the coffee maker’s water reservoir. It goes without saying that white vinegar should be used. Steer clear of the red wine or apple cider vinegar varieties. Then just turn on the regular brew cycle. You're kitchen will probably have a nice salad smell while it's brewing which you may even like. If you're not a salad fan though, just remember that it's a small price to pay for a good cup of coffee. Now rinse the coffee maker out by using only water this time in the water reservoir and running the brew cycle again. You may have to do this a few more times if you still smell vinegar.

Another easy way to keep the coffee maker clean is to put a glass marble in the water chamber. All the mineral deposits that would usually accumulate inside the coffee maker will instead accumulate on the marble. Every once in a while just remove the marble, wash it and then place it back in the chamber. How much easier could that be? The best solution would be to clean your coffee maker with vinegar monthly while also using the marble method. Change the marble once a week and you’re coffee maker will be in great shape.
