How Technology Helps You Become A Lucid Dreamer.

You want to have a lucid dream. That much you are sure of; however, what you are not at all sure of is how to go about having one.

Knowing why you have chosen to become a lucid dreamer is important. How can it benefit you personally? To know this we can work backwards from what it considered normal sleep.

What is different about lucid dreaming? Normally, you lay down and you’re out for six to eight hours. Maybe you remember your dreams, maybe not. The usual � not all that interesting, really.

The human body has a built in requirement for sleep. It rests the body so that we are prepared to continue our lives. Without it, there is strong evidence for insanity. That is all well and good but there is nothing saying we cannot control certain aspects of sleep is there?

How would you like to control what you do while in your dream? Control the events that happen in it in any way you like. A lucid dreamer is in complete control of their dreams.They are able to enter the spiritual realm of existence far removed from what exists in the physical waking hours.

All well and good, but how exactly do you become a lucid dreamer? There are two ways of accomplishing this goal. The first method is to have a dream-initiated lucid dream, or DLID. This is where the dreamer becomes aware that they are in fact dreaming and begins to take control over the dream.

Another popular method is to have a wake initiated lucid dream (WILD); this is a straight shot from awake to asleep with no lapse in your consciousness. This is usually achieved by purposefully retaining awareness during the hypnagoogic state, which directly precedes sleep.

How do you go about achieving these two states of lucid dreaming?

Remember your dreams.

A simple place to start when you would like to lucid dream is in dream recall. This is where you can remember and perhaps recite your dream in part or in whole. You are very likely to have the same dream more than once in your life and being able to remember them will alert you the next time you have that particular dream.

Keeping a dream journal is the best way to learn this skill. A dream journal is for writing down anything which you can remember about your dreams for future reference. You should do this immediately after waking up; the longer you wait, the harder it will be to recall.

Mnemonic Induction of Lucid Dreams (MILD)

Developed by Dr. Stephen LaBerge the idea is to tell your self to recall an object or situation from your dreams, before you go to sleep. You can look back to your dream journal for an example of a recurring them like a pink haired woman. Anything that when you see it in your dream will tell you that you are in fact dreaming.

Wake-Back-to-Bed (WBTB)

To use the wake back to bed method you need do little initially beyond setting your clock to wake you up. Set your clock for about five hours sleep give or take an hour, once the alarm goes off get up and do something. Read a book, your dream journal anything but going back to sleep, after approximately an hour you may go back to bed. In studies done this method has 60% of the time. When you are interrupted in the middle of sleep, you are interrupting rapid eye movement sleep. This is the time when dreams are the most active. Therefore, you stop in the middle of your best dreamtime only to return to sleep a short time later, improving your chances of entering lucid dream state.

This technique of learning to lucid dream has a sixty percent success rate according to Stephen LaBerge. You have waked up during the dream cycle of your sleep which is referred to as REM. This is like a trigger telling your mind that you want to be aware when you are dreaming.

As the name suggests this technique is all about cycling your sleep. Go to bed at your normal time but for a week set an alarm to wake you one and a half hours early. You should continue to do this for around 7 days. Once your body has settled somewhat into this routine, begin to alternate your wake up times. One day normal, wake up time the next early, on your normal days you will be trying to wake up early and should increase lucid dream chances.

Daniel Love came up with this way to accomplish lucid dreaming. Start getting up an hour and a half earlier. After you get used to this, go back to getting up at your usual time. Since you are used to getting up earlier but don�t have to now, your mind is still thinking you are awake, therefore you will be more likely to be aware in your dream.

WILD refers to Wake Initiation of Lucid Dreams

The trick is to keep your conscious mind aware and let your physical body sleep. This can prove to be very interesting. Lay back, close your eyes and wait for your dream to begin. Imagine you have put a movie in the DVD player and you are waiting for it to begin. Focus on the black screen until your dream begins to play out.

You need to stay aware; it is a lot like self hypnosis. This is not a good exercise to try when you are tired as your mind may not stay as aware. Try to focus on things that require brain activity such as doing math puzzles, jogging or anything to keep your mind active. Breathe evenly and focus on relaxing every part of your body.

They now have tools you can use to make it even easier to induce lucid dreams. You can get dreaming masks and devices with strobe lights to help you get into the right state of dreaming.

The best and easiest way to achieving the state of lucid dreaming is by using headphones.You should listen to sounds that naturally alter your brainwaves, these are called binaural beats.

This type of sound can alter your brain and bring you to the REM stage of sleep very quickly. This is where your lucid dreaming will occur.

With a combination of self affirmations, self hypnosis and binaural sounds, being a lucid dreamer is something anyone can do successfully.

You will need to learn how to remember your dreams if you want to be able to have lucid dreams. It is referred to as dream recall, the ability to remember your dreams. Writing down everything you can recall dreaming, this is called keeping a dream journal. The more you do this the more likely you will be to remember your dreams. If possible do this as soon as you wake up as this is the time when you will remember the most about your dreams.

In this technique, you sleep and set your alarm for only a few hours from the time that you go to bed. Upon awakening, don’t go right back to sleep � stay awake for about an hour, then go back to bed.

Cycle Adjustment Technique

As the name suggests this technique is all about cycling your sleep. Go to bed at your normal time but for a week set an alarm to wake you one and a half hours early. You should continue to do this for around 7 days. Once your body has settled somewhat into this routine, begin to alternate your wake up times. One day normal, wake up time the next early, on your normal days you will be trying to wake up early and should increase lucid dream chances.

Developed by Daniel Love, this involves setting your alarm to wake about 90 minutes earlier than usual; once you acclimate to this, set your alarm to wake you up alternately early and at the time you used to get up. At those times when you wake up at the usual time, you’ll be accustomed to waking early. This means that you are more likely to lucid dream during this last hour and a half.

WILD refers to Wake Initiation of Lucid Dreams

To get into this correct frame of mind if you will there are a few tricks you can use. Focus seems to be key so try to focus your mind on things like your breathing, counting, perhaps chant or meditate. In a way, you are practicing self-hypnosis. Use this technique when you are not extremely tired, perhaps during a late nap.

Some of the methods which can keep you mentally alert are chanting, being aware of your breathing, counting, and picturing yourself climbing up or down stairs and focusing on relaxing your body from head to toe. All of these techniques fall under the umbrella of self hypnosis. The best time to use this technique is when you are not physically tired, especially in the afternoon.

The sounds bring the two sides of the brain in synch. Your brainwaves are then converted to REM waves the time during sleep when you dream and the frequency at which lucid dreams occur.

With self-hypnosis and a conscious preparedness before you go to sleep anyone can practice lucid dreaming.

Binaural beats induce lucid dreaming by causing the hemispheres of your brain to work synchronously, making your brainwaves shift to the frequency required for lucid dreaming.

Anyone can learn to be a lucid dreamer. Practice the self hypnosis and keep telling yourself when awake that you will be aware when you are dreaming. This will prepare you for your lucid dream experience.


Simple Stress Management Techniques

Stress is a natural response that is a part of the reaction called the “fight or flight” reaction. It is brought about by the anxious feeling of having to deal with seemingly overwhelming circumstances. While stress is a result of a reaction to a physically or mentally perceived threat, it can do some damage to you physically if the stressful situation sticks around for a long time and you aren’t able to get over or cope up with it. Stress management techniques usually involve relaxation, turning your attention to something else, or developing a positive mindset.
There are some circumstances though, where certain stress management techniques are inappropriate. This is because of the different life experiences that all of us have, therefore different encountered stressors. Also, we have different reactions to stressors when we encounter them. For instance, listening to music after a stressful workday may be relaxing for an employee who works in an office, but may not be appropriate for a student who just took an examination. The student may still be worrying about the results of the exam and may need to be taking his mind off of it by playing a game, watching a movie, or entertaining a hob.
Stress is usually a response if something caught us by surprise. This is why in stress management, time management is always included. Careful planning can be done to prevent from getting stressed. The planning shouldn’t be overdone, though, as it can cause further stress. When you give importance to your time, you learn how to prioritize and organize. Knowing the importance of your work makes the tasks at office much simpler to deal with. For students, they can also try studying a few days ahead rather than cramming everything in the night before the exam.
Developing time management skills can make you more flexible to other stress management techniques. For instance, if you have a big day ahead of you, you may want to leave early for school or work. You may be able to squeeze in a little exercise by walking the last few blocks to your office. If you’re a student, then you may be able to do a little more skimming before walking into the examination room. If you are at work, you can start with your tasks a little earlier in order to avoid bringing any more work home.
While there are a lot of stress management techniques out there, the skills in time management would be applicable to all scenarios. It is up to you to use your imagination. You may have heard of the phrase “time is gold”, or “time is money”. In terms of stress, “less time is more stress”.

Are You Getting in the Way?

Getting out of our busy mode and into our heart occasionally, I’m certain that many of us would find at least one moment during our day where we could pause, reflect on a situation, and see something that we can do to make a difference in someone else’s life.  The pace of life and work has increased a lot and I daresay we don’t give as much thought as we could to the circumstances of other people’s lives. Sometimes, we’re so caught up in our own struggle that we don’t think we can even afford the time to “give” our time, suggestions, talents, to others. And yet, if we do, we are rewarded.  We are often times, throughout our lives, able to experience richness, synchronicity, and reward through small acts of generosity. This isn’t even about money, although sometimes the rewards will impact our financial status as well. And yet, we fail too often when we are so self-absorbed or consumed by our own situation thinking we’d give up too much by helping.So, this is just a gentle reminder for all of us to pay attention to at least one “little thing” that will make a difference for someone else. Try to make it for someone you don’t know well or don’t know at all; family and friends are too easy and natural.
