Creating a Great Screenplay
Writing screenplays isn’t as tough as most people would think. Though the number of screenplays being turned into movies are not at the highest rate, the chances are still great if you have the basic tools need to draft up a dazzling Screenplay, with great dialog, smooth pacing, and a great plot.
Get Ready
To start off with, make sure that you are really ready to start the endeavor of writing a movie screenplay. There are lots of tips, and bits of information to remember, though they are fairly easy to accomplish and master.
1. What’s the Story?
Ask yourself, “What story am I about to write?Remember that there is no difference between the plot and the story. Both give the reader an idea of what they are going to be reading. There are many plots, and some of them have turned into blockbusters. For example, there was a plot about killer sharks swimming in the water of a local beach. Another plot consisted of a an alien coming to Earth, and befriending a young boy, only to be discovered from hiding. Yet another is of a man who has blackouts as a kid, and realizes later on in life that he can go back in time… then change things. Whatever story or plot that you come up with, make sure it’s a damn good one, as well.
2. You Must Have a Hero and a Villain
A story would not be a complete story without a hero and a villain. The wonderful thing about stories, and imagination, is that a hero could be anything, a person, a group of people, all fighting for a something or someone. Just as well, the villain could be anything, an organization, animal, or someone not even human. It could be a ghost! The reason why both of these people are key ingredients for a great plot is because the hero is someone that the movie goer can relate to. They have to have a reason to sit through almost two hours of a movie, and the hero must provide that, along with the plot. Also, the villain must be there to damper the progress of your hero. Just as your hero must have something that they want to achieve, the villain must be there to stop them in any way, shape, form, or fashion. This builds suspense and drama, two wonderful ingredients for an entertaining story.
3. You Must Have Conflict
Conflict, drama, or obstacles must constantly be in your hero’s way. For this, you must turn to your villain, and give them a reason to stop your hero from getting what he/she most desires. At the same time, you don’t want to outwit your hero so much that the audience feels absolutely no hope. An audience wants to see ordinary people succeed, because they consider themselves ordinary, as well. Look at J.R.R. Tolkien’s book, The Lord of the Rings. Frodo, the hero, and small hobbit was a mere three feet tall, and managed to take the precious ring to Mount Doom, even after being stabbed by a sword, a giant spider, and having his finger bitten off. Lots of obstacles were present, but with a fair amount of successes as well.
4. Focus on Pacing
The pacing of your screenplay must be smooth, not too slow, and not too fast.
Risk of being too slow-
Needless to say, if your screenplay’s pacing is slow, people will get bored to death. The one thing you don’t want your audience, of a slush pile reader for that matter, is walking out on your story. You want to constantly keep them entertained by giving new plot information with each scene, and a wonderful climax at the end.
Risk of being too fast-
Going too fast can, sometimes, confuse the audience, or the reader. Try to make sure the pacing is even, with a slow scene to follow behind a fast action packed one. The balance should be so smooth and graceful in order that the reader or audience will crave for more, or feel blissfully satisfied after the climax and resolution scenes.
5. Please, No More Than 120 Pages!
Your screenplay should be no more than 120 pages. Now, if you believe your movie could only be told in page length over 120 pages, then go right ahead. However, it’s not a good idea to push the page count over 150; at that point, your “masterpiece” will be directly rejected. Slush pile readers have many, sometimes, hundreds of other screenplays to read, and they want the shortest ones with the most potential.
Follow your instincts when it creating the story you wish to tell, but follow these tips, and make sure you put them into memory, because they are screenwriting law, especially if you wish to get work as a screenwriter. Spongebob Squarepants Will Melt Your Childs Mind
It’s been a long time since we first met Spongebob Squarepants in 1999, though there doesn’t seem to be much talk about the awful things he continues to do to our poor little childrens’ minds on a daily basis.
Why are there not hordes of protestors in the streets chanting angy slogans? Where is the Senatorial debate? Where are the fanatical masses (that have never seen the show before) when we are in our hour of most dire need?
Spongebob is a sea sponge that lives in a pineapple at the bottom of the ocean in a town called “Bikini Bottom”.
I can point out several things wrong with that one sentence that should cause you to worry about what this show is teaching our children!
- Spongebob looks like a yellow kitchen sponge and not a sea sponge at all, though both his parents do look much more like sea sponges
- He lives in a pineapple that never biodegrades
- The towns’ name is a sexual innuendo
- Bikini Bottom is also a reference to Bikini Atoll, an area devastated by the USA in the 1940s and 50s by nuclear weapons testing
With that one simple sentence about the show we have already come across some major issues, and yet nobody says a word and we continue to allow our children to watch. With every single episode that you watch, you will notice more and more things in the show that could be damaging to your childs developing mind.
The characters routinely use fire underwater, such as campfires.
The characters go to the “Goo Lagoon” beach to swim and sunbathe… underwater. One surfer fish named “Scooter” DIED at Goo Lagoon because he was buried in sand up to his neck and nobody dug him out before high tide came in and drowned him! (Spongebob Season 2: Episode Name: Bubble Buddy)
Scooter does return in later episodes, alive.
The various fish-based characters drive boats as cars and ride bicycles with multiple rotating paddles as wheels.
One of Spongebobs’ neighbors is ‘Squidward Tentacles’… the octopus… but he has only 6 tentacles because it’s easier to draw instead of the correct amount of 8 for an octopus or 10 for a squid. Squidward the octopus likes to play his clarinet… underwater.
“Mr. Krabs” is a crab that owns the “Krusty Krab” restaurant, and he has a daughter named “Pearl”… who is a Sperm Whale.
Across the street from the Krusty Krab is the “Chum Bucket” restaurant owned by “Sheldon J. Plankton” whom everyone refers to as just “Plankton”. Plankton is in fact not “planktonic” (drifting in sea waters), but is “benthic” (living on the ocean floor), and is married to…. a computer named “Karen”, whom in the Spongebob movie states that she never agreed to marry Plankton.
And now we find that he has gone from just your TV to invade our real world.
I live with my wife and our two children in a suburb of St. Paul MN, and we sometimes go to Mall of America in Bloomington, MN. We have taken the children to the renamed “Camp Snoopy” which is now “Nickelodeon Universe”, and there you can find many references to Spongebob throughout the amusement park. On occasion they even have a person dressed as Spongebob walking around greeting children, and they can also have their photo taken with him.
What more proof do we need that Spongebob is a conspiracy to brainwash our children and make them think that all the anomalies I pointed out above are to be considered “normal” or “acceptable”?
Is all we care about mindless entertainment being being pumped into our systems 24hrs a day? We are being trained that we don’t have to think for ourselves or wonder about what might really be the important goings-on in the world; and instead we should just sit back, watch “American Idol” and consume, obey and reproduce.
I took a quick break from my Sony digital camera repair work and just finished watching my Spongebob Season 3 box set, and will purchase season 4, 5, 6 etc. shortly… for research purposes only I assure you. I will report back with my findings after watching them all… a few times… with my kids by my side because they love that sponge and we watch the show daily. Now I need to get back to some Canon digital camera repair work or I won’t be able to buy that new Spongebob box set!
I wonder when the new Spongebob movie is coming out? I can’t wait to see it!
The Reason Why People Use LCD TV
Although LCD Television or Liquid Crystal Display TV came later after CRT Television or cathode Ray Tube TV, but the demand for LCD TV is more improved compared with the CRT TV and the main cause for the LCD TV has a more stylish, lightweight and slim, making it look more attractive, more easily moved from one place another place, and requires a smaller space, and even the TV LVD can hang on the wall.
Although LCD Televisions don’t have tube on the back, but LCD TVs have a small layer of liquid crystals sandwiched between polarizing filters, and then is polarized liquid crystal to produce red, green, and blue color. These liquid crystal as well creates pixels on the screen, and from each one pixel will emit light for more or less 20 ms which makes the LCD TV can create pictures up to 50 frames per second. LCD TV and the means to produce high-quality images and comfortable in the eyes
The absence of cathode ray tubes in LCD TV makes little contrast and cause less tension when compared to CRT TV so watching TV using LCD TV for hours does not make eye pain or headache. With that combination plus a high resolution and picture quality better makes the LCD TV is more convenient to watch for eye health. Choose the Ideal HDTV for Your Home and Your Budget
HDTVs are in more homes than ever today, and those who don’t have them yet are preparing to buy them. Today’s sleek, flat HDTV designs plus crystal clear picture quality are a dream come true for TV lovers.
There are many different brands and HDTV styles on the market today. You can spend as little as a few hundred dollars or up to ,000, depending on features, size and brand name. The most important thing to keep in mind when purchasing an HDTV is your personal preferences and how to best meet them within your budget.
Browsing online HDTV retailers is a great way to understand and decide on features and exactly what you want in a new TV. You can also explore reviews of popular HTDTV brands to learn about consumers’ experiences, preferences and complaints. The more time you spend learning about HDTV options, the more likely you are to make a purchase you’ll be happy with long term.
Today there are 6 types of HDTVs to choose from: Cathode-ray Tube (CRT) direct view, Rear Project CRT, Liquid-Crystal Display (LCD), Plasma, Microdisplays and Front Video Projector TVs.
The CRT direct view TV uses a cathode-ray tube, grids, an anode and a sealed vacuum glass housing. CRTs use analog or digital signal processing circuits to produce pictures. This service is highly effective at translating video and audio from HDTV networks.
CRT rear projection TVs are similar to CRT TVs, but lenses and mirrors are used to project images onto a larger screen. It’s easy to make large screen TVs this way, but the resolution won’t be adequate without digital signal processing circuits that improve the images. Most of these types come with built-in stands. These are great for home theaters.
In Liquid Crystal Display TVs, thousands of tiny elements containing a liquid crystal solution are manipulated into various positions by super small transistors. A fluorescent backlight source is polarized before its light reaches the elements. By manipulating these crystals to open and close or twist into different positions and using miniature color filters you can have a full-color video. LCD TVs weigh less than their CRT counterparts.
Plasma TVs feature fixed pixel structure. Red, green and blue pixels are shaped inside an assembly of intersecting struts sealed between 2 glass plates and a static gas mixture is present in any given pixel. When an electric voltage is applied to any individual pixel, the gas is ionized to produce ultraviolet light which strikes the different colored phosphors to produce colors. When the voltage is removed, a black color is achieved. Through the usage of additional electrodes, the charging and discharging of gases is sped up, making full-motion video possible.
Microdisplay TVs uses digital micro mirror technology to refract light which is then projected to a wider screen.
Front Video Projector TVs have the same technology as the CRT rear projection TVs.
Once you know what type of HDTV you want, you need to decide on a size. Bigger doesn’t always mean better when it comes to HDTVs. You should choose a TV that suits the room where it will be viewed. A better quality 42-inch HDTV could allow you to make more of your budget compared to buying a lesser quality big screen TV.
