Epic Science Fiction at its Best, Three New Books That Push The Limits…

By Article Guy On November 9, 2009 No Comments

So what do you get when you mix together a couple of AI’s in a Virtual Reality, along with some cyborgs, drug lords, pirates, aliens, and two homegrown 20-somethings just trying to stay out of trouble? Throw in a little inter-galactic intrigue, a hired killer or two, and a rebellion and civil war, and the plot gets even more entertaining. Part love story, part swashbuckling adventure, part deadly intrigue, and part just plain good science fiction, the story just gets better the further you read into it.

Introducing the Hellzai Trilogy, a hot new series out from http://www.EvergreenMountainPublishing.com/, an epic science fiction masterpiece that pushes the edges of science fiction into new and exciting territory!

But this story is more than just simple science fiction. It’s the story of a long haul freighter pilot with a past he’d rather forget, and the beautiful young woman on the run that he picks up on Tertia, reluctant daughter of a ruthless baron. It’s the story of the two people that find comfort together in the midst of ashes, conflict, betrayal, and heartache. And it’s the story about the decisions they must face in the continuing battle between good and evil.

Keep in mind though, that even though it is generally classed as science fiction or even space opera, this story goes beyond that, with shades of action-suspense, supernatural horror, and just plain old mystery thrown in for good measure. As you turn the pages of these three new classics by T. Russell Benedict, you will go from righteous anger and nail-biting suspense, to emotional tears, laughter, and eventually, satisfied resolution.

So come follow these two people as they try to make sense of their lives spent in the shadows of a galaxy thrown into chaos, in a place where people live entire lives in Virtual Reality, where pirates daily raid the deep space frieght-lanes, and where Artificially Intelligent computer programs prowl the net. Ultimately, one man and one woman must forget their pasts behind them, and plunge forward into a fragile new life together, while accepting the heavy mantle of destiny that has been given to them. Come gasp in the metallic, gritty, desert Kamen air with them as it blasts across their faces, or smell the humid and refreshing salt-water breezes of Kia gently touching their lips. Wander the jungles of Tertia, and try not to get lost in the busy steel halls of Loran Minor. Or if ‘awe-inspiring’ and ‘breathtaking’ is more your speed, get lost in the exotic crystal caverns and towering forests of Doria, and marvel at the mathematical precision and beauty of the Killian trojan-point star system. And if you’re really brave about it, hijack a pirate patrol in the dead of space with them and then dodge the prison searchlights on Scarat while on a search and rescue mission.

Hopes, dreams, betrayals, and redemptions, it’s all here, along with drug lords, pirates and terminators, and a loner, a rich kid, and a starship. And a whole bunch of desolate, empty space. Could you survive in a universe gone berserk?

Cunningly Clever Marketing by Andrew Wood – A Must Read For Anyone in the Profession of Advertising

By Article Guy On November 8, 2009 No Comments

I’m going to do this review in reverse and tell you right now that Cunningly Clever Marketing by Andrew Wood is a must be on the desk. Anything you need to know about marketing is in this book and I’m shocked that these books are still in stock in Amazon. As of this writing they say there are only two left but more are on the way.

Now on to the review of the book. I got asked to review this book by an associate of mine. He had received a copy of the book for free by the people who actually run the Cunningly Clever Marketing operation. They approached him and asked him to write a entire assessment of the book and place it on his website to generate some interest since the book was just released earlier this year. Before he posted the review on his website he wanted me to read through the book and see if I had the same opinion as him. Well I have read the Cunningly Clever Marketing and will be disappointing him by posting a review of this marketing book on my website before he gets it on his own site! First person to have the content on their site gets the most points right?

Anyway, the book is excellent. I have read a lot of marketing books from all of the greats. Books like Ogilvy on Advertising, The 22 Immutable Laws of Branding and The Book of Gossage; they all set the standard which all new internet marketing books are judged against. Well, add a new book to that list because Cunningly Clever Marketing deserves its rightful place right next to David Ogilvy and the rest of the marketing greats.

Why is this book so good? Well for one it takes all of the marketing strategies that have worked in the past and puts them into individual small chapters that are extremely easy to read and understand. Literally almost every chapter in this book is no more than 2 or 3 pages long at most.

Another reason this book is great is just the writing style of Andrew Wood. The book is self published so there are spelling mistakes like most self published titles, but Andrew’s writing style flows very well and it is like the book is actually speaking to you. When I finished reading this marketing book I felt like I spent a day in a hospital and had an IV in me dripping pure marketing info.

Andrew Wood has definitely earned the title of “Marketing Legend” and everyone who is in the profession of marketing or advertising needs to read this book because this marketing book has just become standard reading criteria. This book will not only supply great new marketing ideas to people who are already in the advertising industry, but also people who run a local businesses or really any other type of company. So what are you all waiting for? Go to Amazon, order the book, and get reading and using the extraordinary marketing ideas and marketing plans inside of this book!

Hotel at the Corner of Bitter and Sweet by Jamie Ford – Book Review

By Article Guy On October 30, 2009 No Comments

Book Reviews

The first Henry Lee we meet in Hotel at the Corner of Bitter and Sweet is a middle-aged widow trudging his way home with shopping bags hanging at his side. A taciturn, forlorn man. It is 1986.

The second Henry we meet is his 12-year-old self, a Chinese American school boy, whose father pins a badge on his collar proclaiming, “I am Chinese.” As Henry knows all too well, those words aren’t enough to protect him from taunts and bullying at the hands of his classmates. It is after all 1942, Seattle, and the beginning of World War II. Chinese or not, in the eyes of his Caucasian classmates, Henry is still “yellow.”

Family relationships form the core of this story-a Picoult trademark, as she has always been willing to probe the fallible division between nature and nurture. We peer into the before-and-after lives of Lacy and Lewis Houghton, Peter’s parents, who are loving but often ineffectual. We work our way into the lives of Josie Cormier and her single mother Alex. Alex is a judge, a role she has always found easier than that of being a mother.

And because this is a small closely-knit community, we trace the connections between families. As children, Rosie and Peter were best friends-until Rosie became popular and Peter an outcast. Peter’s mother Lucy, a midwife, delivered Rosie. And Alex as judge may be called upon to try Peter.

The roundup scenes depicted in Bitter and Sweet are frightening and horrific, reminiscent of other roundups in European cities half-way around the world. Thankfully, this country’s basic goodness ensured that, although taken unfairly, the interned Japanese Americans were treated humanely-at least in the camps. The record is hardly so good upon their return, when they found their properties, farms, and businesses sold out from under them. We witness some of that in this novel as well.

Jamie Ford’s novel moves gracefully, back and forth, between the two time frames-war years and four decades later, which is when a stash of Japanese-American belongings turns up in the basement of an old hotel. The middle-aged Henry is certain that something precious to him is to be found in those long-lost boxes and trunks-and he goes in search of it. Clearly, Henry is looking to reclaim a vital piece of of his own past. It is the pleasure of this debut novel that we get to search along with him

The Thirty Day Challenge Creates New Attention to Karl Moore’s Inspirational Books

By Article Guy On October 13, 2009 No Comments

Karl Moore is known to many people who follow his inspirational blog.  Few of those realize that he is also a widely recognized expert on computer programming.  He has written best selling books about programming for Microsoft’s “dot net” platform, a popular Internet business solution.

Karl Moore is one of the instructors in this year’s Thirty Day Challenge, led by Ed Dale.  Last year the challenge had over 50 thousand participants, so Moore can expect to attract even more regular followers during and after this event.

Moore has written three inspirational and motivation books.  One is the very popular 18 Rules of Happiness.  This book is available in paperback or you can buy the version of The 18 Rules of Happiness as an audio cd.
Another among Moore’s three highly popular motivating, inspirational books is the aptly named The Little Book of Inspiration.  It actually will fit in your pocket, which is a great bonus.  The book’s description says, “From Churchill to Disney, discover the wisdom that helps motivate Karl on a daily basis…”  This small book has brought genuine joy to so many readers.
Moore has a very dedicated following.  Many of them read his blog daily and own all three of his books.
The 30 Day Challenge is a free training opportunity for those who want to learn how to start a new business on the Internet.
Moore’s participation in The Thirty Day Challenge has him providing daily video messages for the would be Internet business people.  Each message is tailored to that day’s particular challenges and the mental blocks that might inhibit success.

All of this is bound to lead to an increase in Karl Moore’s book sales as well as followers to his blog.  I guess success breeds success, breeds success, etc.  Remember that you read it here, first.

Learn Spanish quickly

Learning a Language the Easy Way

We have all travelled abroad at some time in our life, or maybe we have had the opportunity to entertain someone from another country and no doubt, we have mused at the perennial question, why is it, that most people from foreign climes can speak at least a modest amount of English. Yet, people from English speaking countries still struggle, with their native language, let alone, learn a foreign language.

Many of my friends live at least part of the year in France and Spain. Learning to speak Spanish, for instance, has suddenly become very popular with the ex-pats who now live out their lives in central and coastal Spain. One of the things they have to consider, but often overlook is learning Spanish. Going to Spain and France is high on the agenda with visitors from the UK and beyond. With the advent of the European Union, a lot more countries are being visited on a yearly basis, some of them were no more than names on a map two decades ago before the fall of Communism and the opening up of central and eastern Europe to eager travellers, investors, adventure seekers, people seeking new work opportunities and now the intrepid traveller’s that seeks to make a foreign country their home.

Despite all these changes, only a few people will take the time and trouble to learn the language of their host nation, what a shame because without the knowledge and vocabulary of the local language you are never fully able to enjoy the customs of the country, its history and its people. How could you go to the local market and haggle for your daily produce unless you are able to converse with the local traders on a one to one level and understand their way of doing business. It is all part of the richness and understanding that you can only get, when you are able to converse on an equal level.

You ask most people why they don’t take the trouble to learn the language of their host nation and most will tell you, I don’t have the time, or it is too complicated and I will never get the understanding of the new language; and yet learning a new language can be relatively painless, enjoyable and fun.

Consider this, more people in the world than ever before can speak English and yet English is considered one of the most difficult and time consuming languages to learn and fully understand. So why is it, people from abroad can take the time and trouble to learn our language and we do not reciprocate by at least attempting to learn theirs.

They say a long march starts with the first small step and the same is true about learning to speak another language. Of course you are not going to learn overnight, but with a little planning, a bit of practise and some good old fashioned determination anybody, yes, anybody is capable of mastering a new language. How long it takes is up to you, it can take as long or as little time as you desire, remember the more time and effort you put into it now will pay dividends later and will increase you enjoyment and satisfaction as you get to grips with the learning process.

A good way to start your learning; is to download an audio book and here, I would recommend Pimsleur, but of course there are many others to choose from. Listen and learn whenever you have a free moment or when you are relaxing, with the right audio equipment and the audio learning book downloaded you are ready to go. You can start by choosing an audio today to help you learn a new language and have fun at the same time.
